If you thought facelift was only a treatment that is done surgically, you are wrong. These days several beauty salons offer non-surgical facelift therapies that cater to women of all age groups. Says beautician Nanda Gosain, who runs her salon in the suburbs, "Facelift should generally be done by women above the age of 40. But considering the popularity of the treatment these days, women even in the age group of 20-30 are going in for it."
So, what does a facelift therapy really do? It is basically a therapy that reverses the ravages of time. Since your skin goes through several changes while you age, the cells start dividing. As you grow old, the cells start dividing slowly. The dermis (the upper layer of your skin) starts thinning and thereby, your skin loses out on elasticity and collagen. Since this loosens the skin, a facelift is done to tighten it, banish fine lines and wrinkles and make your face firmer.
Says Prerona Sengupta, 35, lawyer, "I had got a facelift therapy done when I turned 30 (five years ago). I had started noticing lines around mouth and the skin sagging near my cheeks when I was in my late twenties. Though I got a facial done regularly, it did not help much. That is when I was advised by a beautician friend to go in for a facelift treatment, which did make my face tighter in just two sessions."Types of facelift therapies
Some of the most popular facelift treatments undertaken are: Deep plane facelift, Mid facelift, Mini facelift and Thread lift. While these therapies have been there for a while, the latest addition to the list is the cosmetic acupuncture facelift. It's a popular alternative for those who do not wish to go through the side effects of the usual surgical facelift.
What is cosmetic acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a Chinese method where needles are inserted at pressure points, releasing energy and endorphins. This method is said to improve blood flow and stimulate cell re-growth.
Popular non-surgical facelift therapies
While surgical facelifts have been around for a while, non-surgical facelifts have also gathered momentum in recent times. These treatments are not only comparatively cheaper, but have least risks involved in it. Lasers for example, are a popular non-surgical facelift therapy.
Aftercare
Though your body has its own healing process, aftercare is essential after you've done done your facelift. Says beautician Puja Taluja, "Though the aftercare for non-surgical facelift is minimal, make sure that you do take care of your skin so that it heals well and does not cause any damage to your skin."
Things to remember
Avoid going out in the sun: After you've got your facelift done, avoid stepping out in the sun for a day or two. The harmful UV rays of the sun can damage your skin and can cause pigmentation as well.
Apply a sun protection lotion before you step out: Another precaution that you can take to avoid the sun from damaging your skin is to apply a sun protection lotion evenly on your face before you go out of the house. The SPF will ensure that your skin is protected throughout the day. Reapply the lotion every two to three hours.
Use a medicated cream/lotion: Ask your dermatologist or your beautician if they can prescribe a medicated lotion or cream that you can apply for at least a week. This medicated cream will take care of your face and avoid any rashes or pigmentation to happen.
Drink lots of water: As we all know, water replenishes the system. Thus, make sure that you are drinking adequate water on a daily basis so that your skin stays hydrated and doesn't dry out after the therapy has been done.
Avoid drinking alcohol, smoking or eating junk: Junk food and alcohol can damage your skin. Further, smoking can also damage your skin and make your skin look uneven.
